Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Rob C — 08 Mar 2010
This is my favorite movie. It's brilliant. The entire point of the film, if there is ONE thing to be taken from your time spent watching it, is that humanity is so self-indulgent and so oblivious to everything going on around it that the tragedy of human ignorance is far greater than any tragedies humans could inflict on each other.
The first time I watched this 10 yrs ago I thought it was gay and boring, and a poor man's SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. No cool action, stylized slow motion, or even and final battle scene. WTF is this shit, I thought. But over time my consciousness was raise and things were illuminated when I revisited this film. There is a quote from the film:
"One man looks at a dying bird and thinks there's nothing but unanswered pain. That death's got the final word, it's laughing at him. Another man sees that same bird, feels the glory, feels something smiling through it.".
