Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Mohd. Y — 27 Mar 2010
The thin red line is my all time favourite movie. it is a movie in a way to described it is like you received a gift but when you open the box it was an unexpected gift that will make you say fantastic.
Unexpected is what you will see in this movie. the japs suffering, the local lives life as usual, soldiers deserted the war and an ending that show what exactly on your mind when you were shot or dying. while my other friend craving more for that spectacular blowing saving private ryan at that particular year of 1999. I chose this movie for its finest depiction of life, war and philosophy.
I still remember when I watched the movie in the cinema just to enjoy the story better (watched on cinema copy cd many times). there are less than 20 ppl inside a hall of hundreds seating and most watching it alone myself included. while the movie is in progress I could hear a few snoring here and there and I thought they are just killing time not knowing what to watch. I have to admit it is hard to enjoy this boring movie but the key is patience. patience while opening the gift box I mentioned earlier.
On the big screen watching jim caviezel's charater surrounded by japs and then gunned down is priceless as the scene was full of emotions and into the unknown. at that time I heard somebody is sobbing from among the audience. not all are sleeping by the way. awesome...
