Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Ryan D — 07 Apr 2010
Often debated, not simply because it was released the same year as "Saving Private Ryan", but because how different the film is compared to the World War 2 genre. To identify this film in that genre would be missing the point.
Terrence Malick was missed for 20 years after "Days of Heaven", and this release far surpasses it, to what I think is not only his greatest film, but also one of the absolute greatest of all time.
There isn't enough space here to describe why, but no matter what others say, this film is defined by the individual viewer's emotional journey while watching it.
