Wow, rewatched it today. It's a poetic war, a war searching far deep into human soul, the meaning of all the seemingly meaninigless. A contrast of calm and chaos, sanity and insanity, being ruthless and being sensible, love and hatred.
A war movie doesn't get better than that, and it never will.
