Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Sheldon C — 10 May 2011
Terrence Malick's THE THIN RED LINE is an artistic war film that is meditative and philosophical - featuring great acting from a solid ensemble cast as well as extraordinary and complex battle sequences beautifully shot by cinematographer John Toll.
Malick presents the narrative with much thought and emotion as the war is portrayed through the eyes of multiple characters - emphasizing that this is never just one man's war. The disjoint way in which the plot is told, however, may take away from the story's cohesive whole and prove to be a turn-off to some viewers for what is otherwise a great film.
