The Thin Red Line is classic Malick. Contemplative, questioning, serene. Many shots of nature, beautiful vistas, fantastic performances from what is surely the greatest and biggest ensemble cast ever.
Don't think it doesn't have its share of action though, this is still a war film. The action is immediate and intense and perfectly captured. This is a war film that makes you feel differently than other war films. It's the most beautiful war film I've ever seen and at about three hours never drags or feels as long as it is. Another masterpiece from a master filmmaker.
