Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Jason R — 10 Aug 2011
Quite possibly the best war film ever made. It delves into the very nature of war and soldiers, and contrasts this with Nature itself. Those who believe it is violent, and those who see the beauty beyond the harsh realities of nature and war.
Terrence Malick questions himself all the time in his movies. His deep thirst for answers, as well as his recognition of the beauty of our ignorance is what makes each of his films timeless masterpieces.
And I have to mention the cast: Sean Penn, Jim Caviezel, Nick Stahl, Adrien Brody, Nick Nolte, Woody Harrelson, Ben Chaplin, John Cusack, Elias Koteas, John C. Reily, John Travolta, Dash Mihok, Jared Leto, and even George Clooney makes an appearance at the end.
How's that for an A-list cast?
However, the film is so much more than the sum of it's actors and other parts.
I would suggest preparing yourself to see this, because it is a long and spiritual ride.
