Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Tatyana B — 25 Jun 2013
"EVERY MAN FIGHTS HIS OWN WAR..".
The Thin Red Line is a very unique and deep film, beautifully poetic, searingly touching, the rythym of this film resonates deep in your soul. An epic that dives deep into the psychology of war and the emotions involved. Not a traditional war film in the least, it's a film of utter beauty and darkness. An original in every sense of the word. Director Terrence Malick is back with a vengeance, touching on issues that no other director would dare to go. It's about religion, emotion and psychology and how they all tie in to the overall experience of war and battle. It's packed with action and intensity, the battle sequences are very well made. The story is very well written and executed to the point that it will leave the viewer breathless and emotionally drained. Some of the most complex issues of war are captured on film in a way that will surely touch you.
The Thin Red Line is packed with star power, I mean absolutely packed. Jim Caviezel, Nick Nolte, and Sean Penn are show stoppers Tay put forth brilliant performances. It also features performances by Woody Harrellson, John Cusack, Jared Leto, Adrian Brody, George Clooney, John Travolta, and Elias Kotias. Hollywood truly came together for this epic war story.
Its one of the best war films ever made, along with the likes of Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan, and Flags of Our Fathers. An academy award winning film that is deserving of every award that it received. No other film captures the all the aspects of battle with such an intensity as this movie. A masterpiece all the way through.
