Review of The Thin Man (1934) by Christopher R — 26 Sep 2007
It is a special film that can operate both as screwball comedy, and a psychologically uncompromised film noir. Nick and Nora Charles are probably the best married couple in cinema, particularly in a genre that generally describes human relationships as bleak or meaningless.
It is hard to imagine a better suited match of characters or actors. Perfection! Apparently Dashiell Hammett based Nick & Nora on his own relationship with the playwright Lillian Hellman. One envies them.
