Review of The Thin Man (1934) by Dominic D — 15 Apr 2008
William Powell and Myrna Loy (as well as Asta the Dog) create a rather sweet alcoholic family. They solve crimes, but that's just a way to pass time in between drinks. The detective stories merely provide the thread upon which the jokes can hang.
The movie's greatness comes from its style and charm, after all. When you're done a Thin Man movie (there are 6 in all) you remember the jokes and not the silly murder. And yes, it must be terrible to be shot in the tabloids.
