Review of The Thin Blue Line (1988) by Familiar S — 19 Dec 2010
A captivating story of wrongful arrest ( note my use of the term story) this is a seminal documentary that mixes fiction with fact and makes no bones about the constructedness of the documentary text while doing so.
Critics and fans alike argue about whether or not the protagonist has manipulated the director ( the case was re-opened on account of the documentary) , but that's not the point. It's the interrogation of the documentary genre & the stories that documentarians weave that left such a lasting impression on me.
If you have ever pondered the politics of truth in documentary then this is must-see.
