Review of The Thief of Bagdad (1924) by J'onn J — 31 Jan 2014
It's like Americana turned inward.
You have gingoistic sentiment (in the form of Caliphate nationalism).
You have a dynamic in which secular nihilism attacks spiritualism and loses. (i.e. an athiest learns to accept the wisdom of the prophet Mohamed).
You have a healthy dose of xenophoebia (in which Asisns are deadly sexy and very dangerous).
So why couldn't this film be released today?
