Review of The Theory of Everything (2014) by Dinesh P — 26 Apr 2015
Very good, but I don't know if I would've put this up for Best Picture. To be honest, the editing is pretty bad, and it screws up the pace of the film. This should really be about an hour 40 minutes or so, and it's nearly a half hour more than that.
This causes the film to seriously drag at some points, especially when nothing of substance is really happening there. And also, for a film about Stephen Hawking, it really doesn't focus that much on his theories of the universe.
Yes, there's like one or two of them here of some import, but for the most part, the film focuses on Hawking and his girlfriend/wife, which is honestly incredibly boring compared to what I signed up to see.
I thought I was going to see some mind-bending theories put into practice, all while being told the story of Hawking's life. And while this is true to some extent, I really don't care about his relationship with his ex-wife at all.
So while it's a good film, it's also pretty damn deceptive on what it's advertising..
