Review of The Theory of Everything (2014) by Sam C — 28 Apr 2015
I have had high hopes for this movie to be well done (within my standards) for quite some time now. Unfortunately I am disappointed with this one.
I had hopes for a more thought provoking film focused on Hawking's work, yet the movie seemed to have focused more on Jane Wilde Hawking's struggles as a woman married to a brilliant man with physical restrictions, at times the film was comedic (which is fine) but didnt seem to interest me in the way I had wanted it too. It caters to a particular viewer, and ive seen this one far too many times "the struggling couple, due too ones physical restrictions" when one party in the marriage becomes "sexually frustrated" etc.
This one was far too clichà (C) for me, and wouldn't recommend it.
That being said Redmayne's performance was great, not outstanding and maybe that made the movie slightly better.
4/10.
