Review of The Theory of Everything (2014) by Bob W — 18 Jul 2016
This is mainly an adaptation of Jane Wilde Hawking's memoir. The film seems like two different stories. The first part a courageous albeit familiar, feel good biopic of a young woman's love and a scientist with ALS overcoming all the odds.
But then the film takes an unexpected turn (unless you already know their story) much like Hawking's own scientific theory about face. It is not really insightful about Hawking's motivation or science except for very brief comments about peas and potatoes.
Redmayne and Jones are very effective, yet it somehow leaves you dissatisfied with understanding Hawking.
