There's a scene in the beginning of the movie where Hawking adds some milk to his tea. This sent me thinking of the line "I had some dreams/they were clouds in my coffee". Rather than thinking of this, Hawking has one of those swirly cosmic thoughts that geniuses have.

That's why he's a genius and deserves to be protected and cared for by the world, while the rest of us just muddle along without genius or paralyzing diseases. His wife is shown as a conscientious, moody caretaker who nervously vacuums and tends her children while keeping and eye on Stephen.

When the children are raised and she could concentrate more on the pleasures of his company, he runs (no, wheelchairs) off with a saucy red haired nurse. Since this is a high budget movie, she has her own happily ever after with a handsome choir leader (in real life he's a little less handsome but just as self-sacrificing and kind).

Hawking's life is inspiring but not especially uplifting for women. It was necessary for his ideas to get out there, so Jane had to sacrifice her mere diplomatic and medieval spanish interests to produce "the theory of everything".

Because we need to know about the creation of the universe, don't we?
