Review of The Theatre Bizarre (2011) by Bob R — 26 Apr 2012
3.27 out of 5 stars.
This rating is the average of all the elements that make up "The Theatre Bizarre" in this review. That having been said, get ready for a pretty long breakdown that consists of multiple storylines, directors, actors and writers.
"Theatre Guignol" (0-7): (framing segments) 3.5/5 A nice progression and transition from short-to-short-to-finale, utilizing an old-school B-movie approach.
"The Mother of Toads" (1): 1.5/5 I suppose this would be the best kickoff, since it's the weakest of the bunch. The acting is more than acceptable, but there isn't much in the way of character development.
"I Love You" (2): 3.5/5 Innovative use of ~30x30 Ft stage, while not making the viewer feel trapped inside of the set. A solid film with great editing, acting, script and cinematography.
"Wet Dreams" (3): 4/5 A short that could have easily been made into a feature-length psychological thriller. The only reason it wasn't rated higher is because of the fact that it hasn't been made into a full length film. Make this short into its own movie, please. This could be a 5/5 if handled properly.
"The Accident" (4): 4.9/5 We all wonder about mortality as a child, but give up on wondering as an adult. This is a fantastic portrayal of the differences in our mentality as we age.
"Vision Stains" (5): 2.5/5 Too close to "Requiem for a Dream" w/the quick cuts in the beginning. Cult fans of "Strange Days" will be able to relate to the plot all-too-well. While it isn't entirely unoriginal, it's pretty close to it.
"Sweets" (6): 3/5 Love, lust, gluttony and a broken heart, if you can call the heart broken (you'll understand). Hats off to the wink.
Finale (7): This resolution is a bit lacking, yet still has content which leaves the viewer with a message.
