Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) by Michael C — 21 May 2009
I didn't like this at all, despite it being very well made, an featuring some impressive scenes. It's predecessor, the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, was most impressive, being both frightening, and different enough from the original.
This however, is like a super-gory cannibalisation of both those films. It's essentially a remake, of the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but with some pointless info on the younger Leatherface.
I also can't say I'm a fan of this trend of filling in tons of backstory on cinema boogeymen, which is a signal that Hollywood really hasn't a clue what made these 70's pictures so frightening back in the day. Who the fuck cares about the "history" of Leatherface anyways?
