Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) by Michael E — 19 Jul 2009
1969: Brothers Eric and Dean travel across Texas with their girlfriends Chrissy and Bailey, looking to relax and have fun before being sent to Vietnam. It is here they will encounter the pyschotic Hewitt Family and the menancing Leatherface.
My first TCM movie. Atmospher is dark, grim and slightly twisted, perfect for a slasher flick. Gore and filth a plenty, kept me on the edge of my seat and had some good frights. The actors playing the would-be victims are good though there not given much beyond screaming to do. Leatherface is suitably meanicing but you know what? Don't need him, he's just another masked pyscho, not too scary especially when you have the head of the Hewitt Family played with piss and vinegar by R. Lee Ermey (who also provides some of the films funniest lines). I'll take my chances with Leatherface over Ermey with a stick up his ass any day of the week, that guy can play mean like its no ones business.
