Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) by Liz — 11 Mar 2011
The original Texas chainsaw is by far, no argument, one of the scariest movies of all time. The remake is filled with an amazing cast and effects. A big thing that added humor to the original was Franklin. Not having Franklin gave me an immediate hatred to the remake. Luckily the movie made up for it with an incredible cast, great acting, story and id have to say leatherface was fantastic.
The big thing that freaked me out as a kid was the family themselves. The remake delivers 75% on how incredibly freaky the family was. Especially the incredible performance from Lee Ermey who is one if my favorite actors of all time. Many of the key scenes were redone for this remake. The most influential being The hook scene. This did not disappoint.
Now the family scene was not well done. the the end family scene does not compare with the original. There is no father or mother reference, let alone a dinner sequence. By all means it didn't ruin the movie, but I would have loved to seen that classic scene redone.
Overall it is an amazing remake but not as good as it could have been.
