Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) by Lovro H — 08 May 2015
A not really necessary remake, but still quite a surprise! The movie follows the story of the 1974 original movie, but with a lot of new stories, and not all of the old ones. The characters are completely different, though the way some of them die is similiar to the original movie.
They're not very likeable and you couldn't care less who dies and who lives. The ending is the same as in 1974, but the events which led to that ending are quite different. There is much more gore in this movie, although not too much, than in the original, but it's less scary! The atmosphere is great, but Leatherface isn't as scary as in the original movie.
The first time he shows up, he's scary. But, since then, you kind of get used to him and he's not as messed up as in the original. What bothered me the most is that there isn't a scene where one of the kids is captured by the family and then put through all the crap as the girl in the original.
There's no dinner scene, or the grandpa sucking the blood out of her and stuff like that. Also, the grandfather is much younger in this movie and he talks and "walks"! They ruined the character for me.
All in all, an okay remake with a noticeably bigger budget, but low on scares and thrills.
