Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) by Shelly B — 30 Dec 2007
Well, it's now obvious to me where Rob Zombie gets his inspiration for House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects, which together share many scenes from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Part II.
The second part doesn't deserve to be considered a sequel to the classic (even though the two movies are directed by the same person). Do not expect the same tone, effectiveness, or originality of the first film, which is a horror classic.
Instead, we are treated to one of the most bizarre horror-comedies I have ever witnessed with a cast of wholly unlikable freakshows doing disgusting and brutal things in even more disgusting places. My best comparison would be Evil Dead 2, which also didn't take itself seriously.
I recommend seeing it just because you won't believe what you are seeing...expect a lot of laughs along the way.
