Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) by Senor C — 18 Aug 2011
Outageous and over the top are two best ways to describe The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, a worthy follow up to the original horror classic. Thirteen years after the events in the first film, the cannibalistic Sawyer clan have been in hiding but also made a name for themselves with their award tasting chilli.
Their secret is out when a disc jockey(Caroline Williams) records two snobby kids in a Mercedes being killed by the murderous clan, with the help of a Texas ranger out for justice(a briliantly over the top Dennis Hopper.
) Tobe Hopper returns to direct this sequel and does an amazing job from the creative special effects from Tom Savini(Maniac) to the subterrean sets which is stunning. I must mention the brilliant performance of Bill Moseley who steals this picture and has become a cult horror icon himself as the demented Chop Top.
The movie's problem is that it goes too far for horror fans who in 1986 did not get the dark humoured approach to horror that came to be appreciated years later. Seriously underrated and thankfully it has achieved a cult status of it's own.
