Review of The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933) by Jeremy C — 29 Jun 2008
Spooky and clever thriller. The commentary from David Kalat was insightful. I love how Lang tried to aggrandize and manipulate his image. Kalat does a great job looking at simple evidence e.g., Lang's passport, which contradict dramatic statements such as he was "fleeing" the Nazis.
Nevertheless, this is a great film! Loved also the concept of "visual mirrors." Such a clever and enjoyable movie. You have to have patience with this one. But if you let it soak in it will be worth the effort.
