Great acting, great action, with a creative and original story; Schwarzenegger was the perfect villain. Not only is this a sci-fi movie its also a touching love story of John's passion for Sarah. It's rare to see an action/sci-fi movie with real emotions.
Sarah Connor also have a great character development which is rare consider how woman are often protrayed as nothing more than eye candies in action films.
