What a cloying, saccharine, mawkish pile of shit for retards. (Just kidding about the "for retards" part. Except for if you liked this movie, then you're retarded.).

Tom Hanks is brilliant. We knew this. Stanley Tucci is also brilliant. Here he is also underutilized. Their performances are the singular redeeming qualities to be found here.
The film wants badly to be a contemporary Frank Capra homage. I want it to be that as well, because what we get instead is an overcooked pool of vagina tears, sacks containing which now rest where Spielberg's balls once were. I love sappy movies. I love romantic, foolishly optimistic movies. This movie is insulting. OK, so you're going to agree to marry the character you have no business marrying who is effectively a complete stranger. OK. But holding up the "live long and prosper" sign, then turning your hand around to reveal the engagement ring, tears in your eyes while the maudlin music swells? Fuck you.
