I don't think Spielberg knew what he wanted this movie to be. Comedy? Not really - Hanks is good, but good enough for this long, drawn-out script. Romance? Not really - the love interest is so shallow that it never feels genuine.
Thought-provoking drama? Not really - the tension between the head of security had great potential but the movie veers into the silly love story and ends with too much sentimentalism.
