It was never going to be Spielberg's best, but it sure isn't his worst (not with 1941 stinking up his resume). The concept is the strongest aspect followed by the sheer likability of Hanks, but the romantic element is crude and unsatisfying. As a short this may have been great, but at 2 plus hours it is nothing more than a solid sit by a directer taking on a less difficult project that entertains, but never amazes.
