Review of The Terminal (2004) by Jim H — 13 Jun 2014
It is one of the few times that you say about Tom Hanks that you never quite feel he's totally lost in his character, but in this cutesy movie, that's par for the course. The movie has a lot of political overtones that could very easily be transformed into hard-nosed issues, but Hanks and the rest of the cast realize that the movie works better if it stays light and fluffy, which it does.
Stanley Tucci is a perfect foil for Hanks, and Catherine Zeta-Jones actually makes the relationship somewhat plausible â?? even if you realize it would never work in real life. Great performances by character actors really round out the film, which is far from perfect, but it makes you walk out of the theater feeling good anyway.
