Review of The Tender Trap (1955) by Tash O — 09 Jul 2008
To modern ears, some of the dialogue - if not the very premise of the film - might be insulting, but I think that fifty years on, it's easier to appreciate this as a humorous period piece. Debbie Reynolds gives a solid but somewhat generic performance as the love interest.
Frank Sinatra manages to split the difference between his unusual intense, brooding overacting and showy musical comedy roles. Good performances by David Wayne and Celeste Holm make the movie, in my opinion, by rounding the whole thing out.
A good Sunday afternoon movie that will whet your appetite for a martini and the less complicated social mores of the 50s.
