Review of The Tenant (1976) by Johan A — 05 Jul 2008
This film not any longer lives in the black hole of classics I just managed to involuntary have missed.I am glad I finally came around to actually watch it.
So yesterday I finally gave it the long deserved chance it had been waiting for. It was good, I mean the film was really good! But I made the mistake by seeing The Tenant just before I went to bed. The effect that descision had was that I woke up all sweaty in the middle of a very, very weird dream hours later. And that about summons it up for the story in The Tenant. A twisted reality, or is it just a dream ,or is it both? Roman Polanski is a master if subtle storytelling and paired with Sven Nykvist's beautiful direction of photography, this one is not only a joy for the mind, but also a nice piece of eyecandy! So if you have not seen this gem from 1976, see it now. (Well, as long as you're not alone just before bedtime of course).
