Review of The Ten Commandments (1956) by Thomas P — 21 Sep 2014
Grand, Epic, Memorable - this bolstered the faith of many, and entertained supremely, even while being over three and a half hours long.
A wonderful triumph that has held it's greatness over time, de Mille succeeded on many levels here - large scale sets, larger than life acting, and despite some excesses and embellishments, it remains provocative and interesting beyond its flaws.
Charlton Heston carries the film with conviction and authority, and that supremely pervades the overall effect.
You must see this movie once in your lifetime - as simply a cultural milestone,.
or more intimately as a bolstering of one's own faith.
This may be the only "bible" some will be exposed to - thankfully it has an awe inspiring reverence and a rich boldness to match what many have forgotten belongs to God.
Relish the truths, forgive the cheekiness, and enjoy this rollercoaster that represents Moses' journey leading his people to the promised land.
