Review of The Ten Commandments (1956) by Jorge Mauricio M — 20 Sep 2015
This is the masterpiece movie of Cecil b. DeMille: opulent, poetic, thrilling. This is the movie that all modern "made-for-Christianity" movies WISH they were, and the first in the public imagination of the Bible; notably, the film elicits holy, spiritual emotions and addresses moral issues without any attempts to proselytize.
Modern Bible films either try to evangelize unbelievers, or cynically dismiss the holy emotion and divine atmosphere of the story altogether - both camps should sit silently here at he feet of DeMille and learn the true art of the great American Cinema.
