I really wanted this movie to be better than it was and I think it wanted to be good too. the humor is even drier than stella, but I think the presentation and refusal to direct this as a comedy is the real undoing.
it did however reestablish my school boy crush on winona ryder. the whole movie is worth watching if only to see her have sex with a ventriloquist's dummy. not because its sexy, but because its absurdly funny.
liev schriber is also quite good.
