Review of The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) by Ashley B — 06 Jun 2009
MPAA Rating: R.
Runtime: 139 minutes.
Tagline:
How far would you go to become someone else.
Plot:
Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) is sent to Europe to convince a rich and spoiled playboy Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law) to return back to New York to take over his father's business. When his mission fails, Tom kills the playboy and starts impersonating him...
Plus:
A mult-layered story that is well acted and directed. Has a top cast (includes Cate Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett) in addition to the leads.
Minus:
Confusing at turns and leaves a lot of plot holes open. Slightly long too.
Overall:
A complex movie that is worth more than a few watches. Though long, it's interesting and you'll be on the edge of your seats the whole time. Thumbs up!
MY Rating: 8/10.
