Review of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) by Amy L — 10 Oct 2007
This has always been one of my favourite movies from the '70's. The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is a straightforward "cops and robbers" flick that is buoyed by excellent pacing from beginning to end, terrific banter, a good sound track, and fun performances by all...just don't look for any meaning in any of it.
Now, over 30 years later, it has that dated look to it. But don't let that distract you. The movie should be rented...don't wait for it on TV, as commercials will kill the pacing.
If you're paying attention, you'll recognize the "Mr. Brown" character is "Wilson" from Home Improvement...the guy whose face was always hidden. That actor is the late Earl Hindman.
This is one of my 'watch-once-a-year' movies.
Apparently, 'devoid-of-new-ideas' Hollywood is going to remake it. Now they're trolling the 1970's for ideas. What's next...Dirty Harry remakes?
