Review of The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014) by Nathan M — 01 Nov 2014
A movie that explores the horrors of possession, but attempts to delve into the horrors of dementia. For the first half of the film, you actually are pretty invested in the case of Deborah Logan and her Alzheimer's.
It's not the best portrayal of the disease, but it's better than most horror films would have handled it. When the actual scares show up, they are pretty effective as well. Director Adam Robitel seems more invested in jump scares than a genuine feeling of tension and dread.
But the jump scares are effective for what they want to be. It's not a great horror film, but thanks to a genuine effort into portraying a deeper kind of fear, The Taking of Deborah Logan is better than many.
