Review of The Sword of Doom (1966) by Michael E — 20 Jul 2008
This film is as dark as they come when it comes to the Chambara drama. A man so taken by his insecurities, fears and doubt that even the fact that he is master swordsman does not manage to save him. Toshiro Mifune is in the background on this one, but makes as much of an impact that his line, "Study the soul to study the sword," is the premise that drives this movie.
Choosing to shoot this in Black and White was a great idea. It really adds to the tone and feel of this movie. I saw this on IFC. I gotta get it now for my own collection.
