Review of The Switch (2010) by Chris O — 04 Sep 2013
I was expecting a movie to make me laugh while I edited a speech. What I got was equal parts smart comedy and emotional poignancy in a complicated scenario. The premise of this movie was smart, but sometimes it adhered too much to romcom tropes.
However, there is one great reason to see this: the relationship between Wally and Sebastian. Jason Bateman and Thomas Robinson had a true and simple connection that was perfect, only emphasized further by Bateman's sincerity in neurosis and a surprisingly real and nuanced performance young Thomas.
Yes, the script has it's weak points and the Bateman/Aniston chemistry isn't great, but there is something simple about what this movie makes you feel between father and possible son. It is hard to resist that tug.
