Review of The Sweet Hereafter (1997) by Harry T — 27 Oct 2007
Graceful, beautiful, and gut wrenching story about a town dealing with profound tragedy. One of the best films I've ever seen. Not to often I consider a film adaptation more effective than the book.
In this case, Egoyan handles Russell Banks' themes of grief and humanity with a clear, conscious vision. The use of the Pied Piper fable is most appropriate as well.
