Review of The Sweet Hereafter (1997) by Kenneth S — 08 Feb 2010
This film is a dramatic punch to the gut. Gut-wrenching, disturbing and even sickly at some points, but it's done with a sharp but caring eye. We feel for these shattered characters even though their motives may be less than ethical.
Strong performances from a largely unknown cast (at least below the 49th parallel), effective direction by Atom Egoyan, and two performances of the song "Courage" (by the The Tragically Hip and Sarah Polley respectively) rank this as one of my favorite dramas of all time.
Every movie lover must see this film!
