Review of The Sweet Hereafter (1997) by Jens T — 20 Nov 2011
Atom Egoyan's The Sweet Hereafter takes place in a bitter clod little town in Canada where a school bus full of children have fell of the road and into the ice where many of the passengers died. Some of the parents decides to get a lawyer, Mitchell Stephens (Ian Holm) to sue the company that manufactured the bus. He goes around the town and ask many of the parents if they want to testify so that they have a case. But Stephens have some struggles himself, involving his daughter being a drug addict whom never learn about her mistakes and have multiple times lend money of her father.
The Sweet Hereafter has the right and perfect winter mood and setting. Also the actors, both young and old are believable. The plot is also so perfect, and how the film jumps between different times and places. It's defiantly a movie I'm going to watch next time I'm in my cabin. Thumbs up.
