Review of The Sweeney (2012) by Marvin M — 13 Sep 2012
The Brits prove again that you don't need 100 million dollars to come up a top notch action packed thrill ride of a film. Ray Winstone is excellent as always and Ben Drew just added another credit under his belt. Forget the original, this director , Nick Love who also directed of the Football factory and The business, shows his film making craft by making his own mark and paying homage to a few other directors. With Micheal Mann's action pieces and cinematography, you be forgiven for thinking how the hell did he make this film on £4million budget? This is a MAN's film with Man voices. I loved it!! I actually wanted to to drop my voice and start swearing whilst beating some criminal to a pulp. Sign me up for the Flying squad!!
As for the sound track it is probably in my top 3 of the year, alongside with Drive and The DArk knight rises. So many critics have slammed this film and the reason why is because they remember the original Sweeny. This is the new Sweeny!! It may not be the best scripted British film, but its one hell of a ride and lots of fun. After watching this you certainly want to talk like Ray Winstone and be a bent cop. If the Olympics did not make you proud to be British then this most certainly will. "Now go and watch it or I'll break your legs"!
