Review of The Sweeney (2012) by Emma W — 15 Sep 2012
A group of charmless, vicious thugs from the Flying Squad attempt to stop criminals who are almost as bad. Nick Love's loutish reimagining of the 70s TV series is pretty nasty. It won't bring back too many fond memories for fans of the original but it nearly brought a tear to my eye seeing Winstone banged up again and there's one lovely nod to Scum for the purpose of reminiscing.
The Michael Mann like shoot out in Trafalgar Square is impressive and the other action sequences are all well done. Ben Drew is limited though he certainly does violence well and Ray Winstone is still (and always will be) the daddy! "Act like a criminal to catch a criminal.
" Yep.
