Review of The Sweeney (2012) by Neil C — 19 Sep 2012
Difficult to know where to start with this one, but letâ(TM)s look at the leading men first of all - Ben Drew and Ray Winstone. Sooner or later, Drew will actually find something that he can do well â" the law of averages surely demands it.
Itâ(TM)s not acting, although to be fair he just plays himself, which is the basic problem. Heâ(TM)s such a pussy that his hard man cop act is laughable â" George from âRainbowâ? would have more menace.
At least heâ(TM)s young enough to do something different in the future. Ray Winstone does not have the luxury of that excuse, and bores us with the same role heâ(TM)s played since god knows when. âThe Sweeneyâ? only cements the visual evidence that Winstones career peaked with âScumâ?.
The chases are fun and thatâ(TM)s just as well, because thereâ(TM)s nothing else to enjoy â" certainly nothing like a story for example. Another pointless remake innit!
