Review of The Sweeney (2012) by Nicholas S — 01 Feb 2013
This film joins Nicolas Cage's Knowing in the select club of films so unwatchable I could not make it to the end. With some interesting stylistic and directorial choices this has the potential to be a good film, but falls flat due to the fatal flaw of making a character piece about a detestable character.
Existing in a parallel universe where the police's modus operandi includes hanging witnesses of balconies, turning a blind eye to a bit of harmless bribery but not anything to do with gathering evidence.
A universe where it's acceptable for an officer's main motivation for fighting crime is it gives them the "most powerful erection", The Sweeney stretches credulity and taste.
