Review of The Swan Princess (1994) by Jacki C — 21 Jun 2009
This movie came out while I was trying to act too grown up for animated princess movies. For that, I refused to admit that I liked it.
Watching it again as an adult, I have to say that it's incredibly unoriginal. The voice acting isn't the best and animation is irritating (why does her hair move like that?!) and someone please tell me, WHERE THE HELL IS HER MOM?! (and Derek's dad for that matter). The story starts with her birth, but her mother is never seen! Her little baby self is handed to her father in a hallway by some disembodied hands and that's it! Did her mother die in Childbirth? They should say that! It'd add some intrigue to the story! Otherwise, I'm left wondering if she's a test-tube baby. Medieval test-tube baby. Now THAT would be an interesting story...
Anyway, for the rest of the story... I don't care. it was pretty blah-cliche. The frog and turtle were a fun pair, though. I enjoyed them more than anything else. The Puffin, I could have done without.
