Review of The Sure Thing (1985) by Wesley G — 27 Oct 2009
I guess there were so many movies geared at a teenage audience in the 80's some were bound to be forgotten. Rob Reiners "The sure thing" seems to be one of those that got forgotten, but it really shouldn't be! The film plays out a little like the intro to "When harry met sally" two people who dont get on, in a car, sexual tension builds.
Its that simple. stylish 80's chiqu direction coupled with the rustic surrounding of the university campus, keeps in with the teen movie conventions, whilst making it that little more realistic. Daphne Zuniga is adorable and as always John Cusack pulls that out that good old Cusack charm.
add Anthony Edwards and Tim Robbins as cameos and your on to a winner. a forgotten classic.
