Review of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) by Breviking — 05 Apr 2023

This film was unabashed joy in a bright, mushroom kingdom wrapper. The characters are warm and fun. I appreciated the characterizations and even the oft criticized casting of Chris Pratt was actually surprisingly good.

Jack Black chews up the scenery and slams down a Tenacious D worthy silly song. I enjoyed the heartfelt sibling relationship between the titular bros. The music is glorious. Bryan Tyler has done a wonderful job adapting the classic tunes into a beautiful, propulsive soundtrack.

Lastly, the animation is just absolutely stellar. It hit all the right beats and will be an easy rewatch.
