Review of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) by Galen — 14 Apr 2023

I was really worried that this was going to be a bad movie when it was first announced. A lot of the marketing did little to dissuade me from this outlook. Happy to report however that the movie was fantastic.

Has a nice backstory with a lot of solid references to the game throughout. I genuinely laughed at the jokes throughout the whole thing and I think they did the characters justice. Plenty of people were worried about characterization of Peach but I can say she is one of the best characters and comes off as competent and strong but also kind, caring, and helpful which is what is usually missing from all modern versions of the "strong female character".

If you love the Mario franchise then this movie is a great rendition of the characters and the world they inhabit.
